Well, once again it is time for my six month update. It has been almost ten months since I have last updated my site. You may call it laziness, but I call it…well laziness. But still I want to try and get back into journaling my thoughts and what not. Also, I will be changing my site theme until I find one I like. Let’s get to it.
As most of you should know (unless you live under a rock) by now Steve Jobs passed away yesterday. He was a great visionary mind who inspired many people and will be missed. Most people did not know Mr. Jobs personally, and those of us that did not, are writing about what his ideas and products have meant to them. For me, it started back in the early 2000′s and I never knew that what was introduced to me at that time is what would help bring out my creative side. I was introduced to Apple by my buddy Ben. He first showed me his brand new iPod (with the click wheel that actually turned) that he got with the iMac he had just purchased in 2001 or 2002. Such an amazing piece of machinery it was, although it was the size and weight of a small brick with a 5GB capacity. I wanted one right then and there, but unfortunately Apple products aren’t the cheapest and being a college student I didn’t have any money. But one thing was for sure, I was hooked. I would frequently visit Ben and get to see more about the world of Apple. I can remember getting on his iMac for the first time and being confused by the red, yellow, and green buttons at the top left of the screen. I was so lost when I was playing on it, but I got used to it. Now it’s second nature and it’s more difficult for me to get around on a regular PC. Anyways, the church he was working for at the time had an eMac (teal, I think) and showed me what he was able to do on it (video editing, designing, etc.). I got to play with it a little bit and really enjoyed getting to edit film. And it came so easy to me. I ended up purchasing a PowerMac G5 right before I finished my college career (so I could get the education discount of course) along with Final Cut Studio so I could begin editing and designing too. I began to make slide shows, camp videos, sports highlight videos, and wedding videos too. Then down the road I started designing websites, logos, and branding. Six years later, my PowerMac G5 is still running. Maybe not as strong as it was in 2005, but it still gets the job done. Being introduced to Apple has brought out a creative side in me that I love very much.
Now onto the 1st generation iPhone which came to us in 2007. I was very excited about the phone, until I heard the keynote and had some problems with what I heard. The price was the main thing and the rest of my thoughts about the 1st generation iPhone can be read here in an href=”http://updraft419.newsvine.com/_news/2007/01/10/514584-the-iphone-80-amazing-20-let-down” target=”_blank”>article I wrote on newsvine.com. Who knew so much would change in four years? Although I complained about not getting one till the price dropped, I still broke down and bought one for $500 six months later. I loved it and never knew how much I would love it. Although when I purchased it, the App Store didn’t exist so it was just a expensive phone with internet until the App Store changed the way I, and everyone else, looked at the iPhone. And I’ve kept up with the iPhone only buying every other generation. I loved my 3Gs when I got it and it has done an outstanding job for two and a half years, but it’s on its last leg. So on the eve of the release of the 4s, I’m excited to be able to buy the 5th generation iPhone. I am hooked on the iPhone and will never (as long as I’ve got money for it) get another phone. All other phones are inferior. I will continue to buy Apple products. My next purchase, besides the iPhone 4s, will be an iMac in the near future because my PowerMac G5 was outdated once Apple started using the Intel chips. I will still use it till it dies. (FYI – my original iPhone, which was sold to my friend Ben, has been in use up until a few months ago.).
So although most people may care about this article or about what Steve Jobs has done or may not realize what impact he made on me and thousands of other people, I do. My creative side may have never been seen or known about if it wasn’t for my friends and his ideas and products. Whether it is encouraging people to follow their dreams to start a business out of their garage, sparking someone’s creativity (writing, designing, editing, etc.), showing people to not give up, or whatever; he did that and so much more. I am saddened by his passing and that the world has lost such a great visionary. But life does and will go on. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Jobs family during this time of mourning.
