So…

1.12.2010 | View Comments

It’s that time again.  It happens once every three to six months.  That’s right, it is me updating my blog.  So a lot has gone on since the last time I updated and don’t remember everything I was going to write about so here is what’s on my mind right now.

So it is a sad time of year.  The college football season has ended and I (as most Sooner fans) am glad it is over.  Alabama won the national championship over Texas (thank goodness).  That is the last thing the Sooners needed was another kick in the balls after this season of…of…of…I can’t think of a good adjective to name this season but it was horrendous.  Two All-Americans, including a Heisman Trophy winner, were injured before the season really even started.  Losing Gresham and Bradford was the worst thing for this team.  Of course you could rack up Bradfords’ injury to the sucky ass offensive line.  But injury after injury after injury (I think OU set a record for hurt players in a season), players playing at multiple positions (which has been done in the same season, but in the same game?), numerous losses suffered by 3 points or less, our field goal kickers not hitting the ocean 10 feet away, DeMarco Murray playing his usual sucky self (get the ball, run into blockers, fall down, repeat.), Landry Jones finding himself (didn’t do that bad of a job and still has a lot of work to do, but most fans expect him to live up to Bradford and OU may not see another Bradford for years), a year of a great defense wasted because of the lack of offense, and yet still finding a way to continue the winning streak at home.  One bright note is that the Sooners finally won a bowl game, even though it was the Sun Bowl.  There were some bright spots with some freshman showing what they can do in the bowl game.  I hope 2010 comes soon and is better than 2009.

Also, does anyone remember a certain ESPN analyst predicting a certain Catholic school to win the National Championship?  I do.  I have the video from the beginning of the year where he, Lou Holtz that is, stated that the Fighting Irish could go undefeated and be playing for a National Championship.  Instead they barely became bowl eligible with a 6-6 record, only to turn down the invitation to the bowl game, and to lose their 4th head coach in the past 10 years.  All of them having about the same records. What does Notre Dame want, 5 star players to always be knocking at their door along with the Bob Stoops and Nick Sabans of the world begging to be their coach?  I mean, come on.  Notre Dame is not a great head coaching job anymore.  And besides that, what recruit wants to keep up with their rules and requirements for a strict catholic school when they can go to a smaller (not to mention cheaper) school such as Utah, TCU, etc. and get as much, if not more exposure.  I mean, yeah, when Rudy was made in the 70′s and 80′s Notre Dame was one of the best places to be, but as we all saw, Rudy struggled with his grades to even become eligible to attend the school, much less be a part of the football team.  I am not saying that all athletes are idiots and “don’t need no skoolin so dont ax me,” but the ones that are good at school and football are few and far between.  Gerald McCoy for OU is one of those, graduating in 3 years and is skipping his senior year to enter the NFL.

In other news, I have decided to drop out of school.  I hope I am not hurting myself for the long run, but I think it is the right thing to do at this point.  I’m behind on my Capitol City work at this point in time and this will allow me to catch up.  I’m hoping to focus on Capitol City more.  I hope to be able to attract more clients allowing me to be able to support myself and bring more love to Capitol City Studios.

Anyways, I am going to try and set aside a couple of days a week, at least, to update my site.  Obviously the more I update, the more random the topics (instead of just sports) too.  So, I’m excited to take on this task and hopefully have more people ride my rants and raves.

Up next will be a review of Sherlock Holmes and Avatar.  Peace.

Check, check

I Love This Time of Year!

12.15.2008 | View Comments

This has to be, by far, the best time of the year for me.  The sites of fall with the colors changing from the beautiful green to red, orange, and yellow.  When the cold hits, colors seem to fade away turning to a gray and brown.  I realize that winter isn’t the most eye-catching season until it snows or something, but it’s awesome.  As I look out my window and see the brown grass and trees with no leaves on them.  That actually reminds me of the scenery out in Las Vegas, brown and dull.  Anyways, what better time of the year is there?   The cold weather is great.  Being able to sit by the fireplace and sip on some hot chocolate.  I love wearing shorts and enjoying the warmth of the summer as much as the next person, but that’s why I like living in Oklahoma.  The variety of weather allows you to experience it all. Also, family from everywhere comes together and enjoys some great food, funny stories,  and catching up.  Watching the younger kids open up their presents and enjoy what they got.  I love wrapping and giving gifts, even though many times I don’t have the money to get people gifts.  But, I’ll tell you that I am one hell of a gift wrapper.

Then there’s the great atmosphere that comes with winter.  People are in more of a giving and thankful mood.   Some are stressed about everything, but they tend to calm down eventually.  One of my favorite traditions were having three Christmases in one day.  We would open up gifts in the morning at home, eat some breakfast and watch TV.  At noon we would go to my Grandma’s house with my dad’s side of the family and for dinner we would go to my Granny and Papa’s house for my mom’s side of the family.  It was a blast as a kid.  How could you not beat three different times of opening up presents?  These days are a bit different due some passing of some grandparents and others living out of state, but it’s still fun.  Another tradition is sitting by the fireplace while watching one of the greatest Christmas movies ever, Christmas Vacation

and even Elf is great too.

How can you beat Clark Griswold and his family’s antics along with Elf and his ginormous toilets?  Fawesome!

My birthday is 4 days before Christmas and that is cool and it makes this time of year even better, even though some people like to give me Christmas/Birthday gifts (which is not cool).  But what is even better is Christs’ birth.  I know some people love Easter, because Christ died that weekend for all our sins.  I totally understand (wow, I’m talking like my 15 yr old sister) why people love Easter, but to me without Christ’s birth none of it would be possible.  All the cool stories leading up to Jesus’ birth makes it an amazing story.  From Joseph taking Mary as his wife even though he could have sent her away to the Shepherds being told of the news by an angel and following the star to the humbleness of being born in a manger.  It is just amazing story.

I hope that all of you have a great Christmas holiday with your friends and family.  Enjoy.

Hey

Yeah, so as most of you all have seen in the past month, my blog is jacked up.  I have been working on it and now have Ben trying to help me.  I don’t mind starting a new blog, but I wanted all my posts from the past on here too.  But this is it for now.  I will try and make it look better and add all of your links back as soon as I can get to it.  I have been wanting to do a lot of talking and ranting this past month, especially about OU football, the election, and randomness.  So, keep checking back to see the updates.

[Edit] Well, I have figured something out…for now.  A quick fix.  I basically started another wordpress blog and imported my posts and stuff, but the last time I backed up my blog was in March, so I have lost 6 months of posts.  It blows, but it’s better than nothing.  Hopefully, I will be able to update the links and pages soon and maybe even the posts from the last 6 months.  [End Edit]

I am so smart, s-m-r-t!

Well, the first weekend of the NCAA Tourney has passed and it hasn't been as crazy as the past few years, but there has still been some great games. My team, Davidson, is still playing. That's the team I'm cheering for now, but I still think Kansas wins it all. My best bracket right now has only 11 out of the Sweet 16 still playing, 6 out of the Elite 8, and all of my Final Four picks are still alive. Doesn't sound like much though.

Anyways, I was eating this past week in the break room at work and I've always noticed a bulletin board that has advertisements, sales, etc from the employees of the casino that they put up. But never paid much attention to it, until I thought I would see if there was anything interesting on it. And something did catch my eye, check this out from a learning center. Well, if you didn't catch anything or everything, let me help you out. So yeah, I'm not sure if I want to send my kids to a place that can't even spell correctly. I mean, Microsoft Word caught all of the mistakes, if it did not already correct it on its own. If you don't know how to make a flyer without using spell check or even proof reading it, then you probably shouldn't be into teaching children. Thought you all might like that.

FYI: If my site looks jacked up to you or if it looks fine, let me know.  I updated to the newest version of WordPress and I'm not completely sure everything is good to go.  Thanks [Edit: Yeah, I know my links to my other pages (ie. about, pics, etc) don't work.  Still trying to fix.]
